Apologies & Weekly Website on Which to Waste Your Worday 11.8.2008 17:0:0 +0000 I apologize for my absence of one week-- My internet was down. Now we continue as usual with the weekly wasteful website (PS if you haven't checked out last week's website on which to waste your workday, please do. It will be infinitely more entertaining than pretending to do work while you play Minesweeper.)
What it is: A time-suck of a message board, on which you collect interests, sound off on topics regarding your interests, and vie with other MyLotters to recieve 'best answer'. You can rate others' topics and responses, and after 100 posts (achieveable in 2 to 3 hours, or by lunch time if you take 2 coffee breaks) a star will appear next to your username, wuith your ranking in it. Keep posting and watch your rating rise (or fall, if you're a real asshole). If you continuously get high ratings in our area of interest, you may find yourself rated as an 'expert' in the subject. It's a nice dose of friendly competition to your everyday chatroom habit. Oh, and you generall make around fifty cents a day-- although that rate will rise with your rankings-- payable to PayPal when you reach $10. No, it's not alot, but I let myself spend that PayPal money for online purchases I'd usually be too frugal to make.
Anyway, hope that MyLot brightens your Monday a little. Tchau.
Weekly Website on Which to Waste Your Workday 4.8.2008 18:28:0 +0000 It's Monday, the dreaded start of most workweeks, so I must relieve some of the boringosity by bringing you a fabulously unboring website on which to waste your workday (note the absence of the dangling participle. I have been working on integrating participles. Shoot me for being a dork).
I am actually very proud of this weekly update, not only for its grammatical correctness, but also for the alliteration. I am somewhat perturbed that 'your' starts with a 'y'. I could say it with a Germanic accent so that it will be a perfect alliteration: 'VeeklyVebsite on Vech to VesteVerrVerrkday.' I feel like I should be wearing Vampire teeth when I say that.
Anyway, this week's wastely website is http://icanhascheezburger.com/. It is the home of enormously hilarious Cats with Captions (more alliterations! I'm on a roll!). Be prepared to have to exercise a lot of effort in not laughing out loud if you are looking at these websites in a cubicle (where random aloud laughing for seemingly no reason at all is treated as possible sign of mental illness). If you enjoy this site, you will probably also like http://www.roflcats.com/ and http://lolcats.com/. Unlike my blog, these sites have absolutely no cares about grammar, and for some reason, it is highly entertaining. Anyway, have fun wasting your workday, and please, feel no guilt in this. It is a Monday. You have every right to spend all day looking at funny cats. But seriously, buckle down on Tuesday. ;)
Here’s the deal: Every week, I will be reviewing a cult film. If at all possible, the Cult Film of the Week will be posted every Sunday.
What is a cult film? I have heard ‘a mainstream film is seen one time by a million people; a cult film is seen a million times by one person.’ I think this is the best description. Some, but not all, cult films are of the ‘it’s so bad it’s good’ variety; others are ‘camp classics’, those kiddie films everyone sees as a child, then forgets about; or ‘cult film’ may refer to B films produced in the 30’s, 50’s, 80’s, or India. A cult film may also e branded as such simply because of its subversive nature.
The Cult Film of this week is The Princess Bride (1987).
Do not let the name fool you. It is not a chick flick. Your boyfriend will probably not believe you if you tell him that The Princess Bride is not a chick flick, so seriously, make him watch it. If he’s into ridiculous spoofs, he’ll love it. It’s like a not-mainstream, not-animated Shrek. The Princess Bride stars Cary Elwes as Wesley (you know him as Robin Hood from that classic Men in Tights) and Robin Wright as Princess Buttercup (yes, the Princess is named Buttercup. Oh, and it’s Jenny from Forrest Gump). Get used to weird names: Other characters include Prince Humperdinck, Fezzik, and Vizzini.
Can’t summarize the plot here, or I’ll ruin the whole thing, but prepare yourself for adventures scaling the Cliffs of Insanity, facing torture in the Pit of Despair, and battling R.O.U.S.’s—The Rodents Of Unusual Size.
You’re probably heard these catch-phrases before, and been unaware that the speaker was referencing this obscure, but loved, cult film:
“As you wish.” “Inconceivable.” “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” “Inconceivable…” “Do you want me to send you back to where you were? Unemployed in Greenland?” “Inconceivable!” “Anybody want a peanut?” “INCONCEIVABLE!” “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

I'm interested in just about everything. In any spare time I happen to have, I create claymation videos (http://www.youtube.com/upcitstudios). I am learning sign language (Sign Exact English version) as quickly as I can. I am nearly fluent in French and hope to someday live in France. I write novels and short stories. I can produce friendship bracelets at an alarming rate. I have recently taken up photography and baking. I'm also quite nearly obsessed with earning money online. I'm working on my abilities as an Indie culture connoisuer. I am dyslexic and spell almost nothing correctly. I'm an aspiring model and boutique-owner. I would like to learn to play classical peices on the piano and compose music before I get too old.
