Bio: Colorado songwriter, Tim Hanauer, has always been fascinated with music. He experimented with the piano, the drums, and the saxophone before picking up a guitar. “When I was 16, my little sister got a guitar for her birthday. I was extremely jealous. I played it until it broke,” Tim says. He finally received his own guitar when he graduated from high school. He wrote his first song that same day. “I took a year off after high school and did little but write and play guitar,” he says. Tim studied Creative Writing at Colorado State University, earning his bachelors in 2001. Later, he went back to earn his teaching certification. “Teaching high school was a backup plan,” Tim admits. “That became clear when I had my first interview for a teaching job. The last question the interviewers asked was, ‘Where do you see yourself in 5 years?’ I froze. Since I was 16 all I’ve dreamt of is being a songwriter.”
Tim recorded his first record, Boomerang, in March 2006. Since the independent release, Tim has earned back-to-back Folks Songwriter awards from the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival and an International Songwriting award. He has performed live on Denver's 9 News, at the Larimer County Fair, A Taste of Colorado, and at numerous colleges and venues in the region.
Boomerang has been named “Favorite acoustic-style CD of 2006,” by Rosalie Howarth, KFOG, San Francisco. While Tim has received airplay coast to coast on specialty shows like KFOG’s Acoustic Sunrise and Sunset and WTYD’s Playing in the Tide Pool, his biggest successes have been on the small screen. Tim is gaining international success through songs featured on CBS's The Ghost Whisperer, CW’s Joan of Arcadia, Lifetime’s Army Wives, ABC’s Lincoln Heights and Canadian Television’s Whistler.
Tim’s new record, Time for Change, dropped digitally on January 1, 2009. Since the release, Time for Change has been featured on episodes of The Ghost Whisperer and One Tree Hill. Tim's song, "Dream a better way," will be the end title theme in an upcoming film, "I Hate Valentine's Day," with Nia Vardalos and John Corbett.

Time for Change - Barter for MP3s
Fort Collins, CO - December 17, 2008 - Tim Hanauer’s new record, Time for Change, will be released digitally on January 1, 2009.
Indie artist, Tim Hanauer, is a DIY phenomenon. He writes, produces, and engineers. He licenses his songs directly with music supervisors for television and film; he promotes his songs to radio stations and magazines across the country and to bloggers across the web. He funds his own records, books his own shows, and even programs his own website.
Now, he is pioneering a new “pay-what-you-want” model for his MP3 downloads. Rather than entering any random dollar amount, listeners select items to buy him in exchange for his record. He calls it The Barter Cart. Buy him a gallon of milk, a gallon of gas, a latte, a beer, guitar strings, a trout or a tour bus. He has devised dozens of things for you to choose from at various prices. The more you pay, the more you get. He’ll write you a song or an entire record for the right price.
His newest record, Time for Change, isn’t even released and it’s already finding its way into film and television. He just landed the end title theme in the new Nia Vardalos film, I Hate Valentine’s Day, with his song, “Dream a better way.” The film stars Nia Vardalos and John Corbett, actors best known for their work on My Big Fat Greek Wedding. “In Repair,” just found its way into an upcoming episode of The Ghost Whisperer on CBS (to air January 9, 2009). "Miss" will be featured in an upcoming episode of One Tree Hill on the CW (airing January 12, 2009).
When you consider the scope of Time for Change, it’s a wonder he completed it without label backing. Combine the gorgeous 70’s guitar tones with the full string and horn sections, the upright piano and the late 60’s bass and the soundscape comes into view. It’s difficult to draw comparisons. You might be inclined to think Snow Patrol, Jack Johnson, or the Beatles. Lyrically, it’s all Tim. You’ve got to hear it for yourself.
